Sapphire Medical Opens New Clinic in Edinburgh
Sapphire Medical Clinics, one of the UK's largest medical cannabis providers, has opened a new physical clinic in Edinburgh — its first in Scotland. The Edinburgh clinic offers in-person consultations with GMC-registered specialist physicians and nurse practitioners, covering the full range of conditions treated by Sapphire including chronic pain, neuropathic pain, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, and treatment-resistant epilepsy. The clinic is also home to a dispensing pharmacist who can advise patients on product selection and dosing directly.
Dr Mikael Sodergren, Clinical Director at Sapphire Medical, said: "Scotland has a large and underserved patient population who have been telling us for years that they want in-person access. Edinburgh is just the beginning — we plan to open two further Scottish clinics in Glasgow and Aberdeen within 18 months."
The Scottish opening is timely: NHS Scotland's Prescribing Information Group (PIG) published updated guidance on CBMPs in January 2026, and Sativex (the only licensed cannabis medicine) has been available on NHS Scotland for MS spasticity since 2014 — making Scottish clinicians generally more familiar with cannabis-based medicines than their English counterparts.
