Aurora Cannabis Reports Record UK Patient Numbers

Aurora Cannabis, one of Canada's largest cannabis producers, has announced a record milestone for its UK operations, surpassing 15,000 active registered patients on its British prescribing platform — a figure that represents a 40% increase year on year.

The company attributed the growth to significant investment in telehealth infrastructure, including an upgraded patient portal and streamlined onboarding process that reduces the time from referral to first prescription. Improved product availability and a broader portfolio of cannabinoid profiles have also contributed to patient retention rates.

Telehealth as a Growth Driver

Aurora's UK operations rely heavily on telehealth consultations, allowing patients across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to access specialist clinicians without the need to travel. The model has proved particularly effective in rural and remote communities where access to in-person specialist care remains limited.

The company noted that average patient satisfaction scores across its UK platform reached an all-time high in Q1 2026, with 88% of respondents rating the consultation experience as good or excellent.

Outlook for 2026

Aurora's UK division forecasts continued double-digit patient growth for the remainder of 2026, driven by expanding GP awareness, increased media coverage of medical cannabis and growing recognition of cannabinoid therapies within NHS pain management pathways. The company is also in discussions with NHS England regarding a potential pilot scheme for NHS-funded prescriptions in specific chronic pain cohorts.
