A large-scale patient survey has found that 89% of UK medical cannabis patients report meaningful improvements in quality of life, with pain, sleep, and anxiety the most commonly improved domains.

Results from one of the largest patient surveys conducted in the UK medical cannabis sector have revealed that 89% of respondents report meaningful improvements in their overall quality of life since beginning prescribed treatment. The survey, which gathered responses from over 4,000 patients, provides compelling real-world evidence alongside clinical trial data.

Key Survey Findings

The survey covered patients across a wide range of conditions and treatment durations, providing a broad picture of patient experience in the UK market.

  • 89% reported improved overall quality of life
  • 81% reported significant reduction in pain scores
  • 76% reported improved sleep quality
  • 68% reported reduced anxiety levels
  • 54% reported being able to reduce or discontinue other medications
  • 91% said they would recommend medical cannabis to others with similar conditions

Conditions Reporting Highest Benefit

Patients with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, and insomnia reported the highest satisfaction rates. Patients treating cancer-related symptoms also reported strong quality-of-life improvements. Conditions where reported benefit was more mixed included certain neurological conditions and some autoimmune disorders, consistent with the variable clinical evidence base for these indications.

Limitations and Context

The survey was conducted via self-reporting, which introduces potential bias. Respondents who have had negative experiences may be less likely to participate, and placebo effects cannot be excluded. Nevertheless, patient-reported outcomes are an important component of evidence-based medicine and carry significant weight in evaluating real-world treatment effectiveness.
