Medical Cannabis Prices Fall 12% Year-on-Year as Competition Grows

05 November 2025 2 min read

Increased competition between UK clinics and manufacturers has driven down the average price per gram of medical cannabis by 12% since 2024.

Average prices for medical cannabis in the UK have fallen by approximately 12% compared to the same period last year, according to pricing data compiled from multiple licensed clinics. The reduction is attributed to increased competition between suppliers and a growing number of licensed manufacturers entering the market. Flower products - the most commonly prescribed form - have seen the most significant price decreases, with the average cost per gram dropping from 12.40 GBP to 10.90 GBP. Oil products have seen more modest reductions of around 7%. The trend is expected to continue as import quotas are gradually relaxed and domestic cultivation - currently limited - begins to scale. Several UK-based cultivation licences were granted in 2024, with the first domestically grown medical cannabis products expected to reach clinics by late 2025. Patient advocacy groups have welcomed the news. Gareth Hughes of the UK Cannabis Patients Alliance told The Guardian: "For many patients, cost is the single biggest barrier to accessing treatment. Every penny saved matters." Clinics have noted that price competition has not come at the expense of quality, with most products continuing to meet the same stringent MHRA import standards.
