NICE Reviews Medical Cannabis Evidence for Chronic Pain

22 October 2024 1 min read Source: NICE

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has opened a formal evidence review for cannabis-based medicines in chronic neuropathic pain, with final guidance expected in 2025. Patient groups have cautiously welcomed the move.

NICE has initiated a technology appraisal for cannabis-based medicinal products in chronic neuropathic pain — a category that would cover the majority of current UK medical cannabis patients. The review comes after sustained pressure from patient advocacy organisations and a growing body of clinical evidence from the UK ACCESS programme.
